James Doyle is the founding Principal of James Doyle Design Associates. The firm was founded in 1993 and he has developed an award-winning design business with residential projects in the United States and Europe. Prior to 1993, Mr. Doyle was head horticulturist of a Russell Page garden in Ireland and has combined his horticultural experience and strong design philosophy to bring to life unique and innovative landscapes.

Projects have ranged from small urban courtyards to large country estates and the firm was named the 2010 APLD International Designer of the Year. Traveling and visiting gardens worldwide has greatly influenced his work and allowed him to develop both contemporary and traditional designs.

He has guided the firm to a growing collection of awards including Palladio and Stanford White Awards, an ASLA Honor Award and an APLD Gold Award. In 2012, Mr. Doyle was elected into the New England Design Hall of Fame for his contributions to landscape design in the New England region. In 2018, he was the recipient of the ICAA’s 2018 Arthur Ross Award in Landscape Design which celebrates a career of excellence in the classical tradition. He has lectured to private groups and conferences both nationally and internationally and has co-authored the firm’s monograph, ‘The Landscape Designs of Doyle Herman Design Associates’.

Matthew Willinger holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from New York University in both History of Art and Literature and is proud to have a career that unites his passion for art and design with his love of horticulture. He has earned certifications from the New York Botanical Garden Continuing Education Program in Landscape Design, Commercial Horticulture Plant Identification, and Flower Garden Design. In addition, he has lectured with various garden clubs and greatly enjoys participating in community events, that improve landscape situations.

Matthew has been a volunteer with EarthPledge, a non-profit New York City organization that promotes ‘Green’ Architecture and environmentally correct practices, and also as a gardener for City Hall Park in New York City. Matthew has been a member of the James Doyle Design Associates team since April, 2006.

Heather Harris is a Landscape Architect at DHDA. She graduated from Cornell University in May 2012, earning a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Landscape Architecture.

A New England native, she grew up working in the greenhouses of her family’s nursery business in rural Connecticut. Her background in plant production, plant maintenance, disease assessment, and garden design, led to her interest in landscape architecture. At Cornell, her studies focused on exploring existing relationships within the landscape.

Heather is delighted to contribute to the practice by linking the built environment to the natural world.

Cheryl Brown began pursuing landscape design in Vermont, integrating her passions for gardening and the outdoors with design. Looking to explore the field of landscape design more extensively, she continued her education and completed a Master Degree in Landscape Architecture at Cornell University. While in school, Ms. Brown was employed as an intern with a residential design-build firm in the Aspen, Colorado area. Here she had the opportunity to work with both homeowners and architects to create outdoor living spaces.

After graduating, she gained experience working on sustainable design projects, ranging in size from small scale entryway gardens to large scale, mixed use developments. She enjoys integrating sustainable design techniques aesthetically into landscape designs. Cheryl Brown brings over 10 years of residential design experience to her projects at James Doyle Design Associates and is a licensed Landscape Architect in the States of Connecticut and New York and member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Adam Cesanek is a practicing Landscape Architect, having graduated from Rutgers University with a Master’s Degree in 2013. Throughout his tenure at James Doyle Design Associates, Adam has been involved in a range of projects, bringing expertise in site planning, construction detailing and project administration. He is currently a member of the Riverdale community in the Bronx, NY and draws upon local gardens for inspiration. Adam has worked to aid other aspiring landscape architects, teaching through the New York Society of Landscape Architects.

In 2013, Adam completed his Master’s Thesis: “Evaluating Public Amenity at 20 Stormwater Management Sites: Philadelphia, PA” and went on to present his findings at the Council for Educators in Landscape Architecture Conference. In 2010 Adam received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Dickinson College, and has surveyed areas of the Delaware River Watershed for the United States Forest Service. Adam draws on a range of personal experience when designing naturalistic landscapes and likes to incorporate native and specimen plantings in his designs.

Justin Quinn began his landscape architectural career in 2007 after serving as an Infantry officer with the United States Army. His experience overseas has given him a unique outlook and disciplined approach to his work. After joining James Doyle Design Associates in 2013 he was promoted to Studio Director, he manages a variety of custom residential projects and leads the Greenwich-based design studio.

Justin received a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Connecticut, earning the Connecticut American Society of Landscape Architecture’s Honor Award for design and technical coursework. A proud father of 3, Justin and his wife are long term residents of Litchfield county where he was elected and served on his town’s conservation and open space commissions.

Yvonne Brandt graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration and Art History, and worked as a local artist and photographer in Philadelphia. She has a passion for modern art and landscape photography and realized her potential as a graphic designer. To learn more she decided to return to school and received an Associate’s Degree in Graphic & Web Design while she was simultaneously working with a marketing firm in Philadelphia, which helped develop her skills as a marketing graphic designer.

In the course of her studies, she was awarded the 2011 and 2012 DCCC Purchase Arts Awards, adjudicated by Professors of The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her family owns a landscape firm in Philadelphia, and her love of horticulture mixed with her experience as a graphic designer has landed her here at James Doyle Design Associates as Creative Manager. Her creative and organizational skills assist her daily in designing and managing all marketing and graphic design projects.
