JAMES DOYLE

FOUNDING PRINCIPAL

James Doyle is the Founding Principal of James Doyle Design Associates. The firm was founded in 1993 and he has developed an award-winning design business with residential projects in the United States and Europe. Prior to 1993, Mr. Doyle was head horticulturist of a Russell Page garden in Ireland and has combined his horticultural experience and strong design philosophy to bring to life unique and innovative landscapes.

Projects have ranged from small urban courtyards to large country estates and the firm was named the 2010 APLD International Designer of the Year. Traveling and visiting gardens worldwide has greatly influenced his work and allowed him to develop both contemporary and traditional designs.

He has guided the firm to a growing collection of awards including Palladio and Stanford White Awards and an APLD Gold Award. In 2012, Mr. Doyle was elected into the New England Design Hall of Fame for his contributions to landscape design in the New England region. In 2018, he was the recipient of the ICAA's 2018 Arthur Ross Award in Landscape Design. He has lectured to private groups and conferences both nationally and internationally and has authored the firm’s monograph, ‘Intersection of Nature and Art’.

JUSTIN QUINN

PRINCIPAL

Justin Quinn began his landscape architectural career in 2007 after serving as an Infantry officer with the United States Army. His experience overseas has given him a unique outlook and disciplined approach to his work. After ten years with James Doyle Design Associates, he now is a Partner and Principal of the firm. His dedication, leadership and mentorship has contributed to the firm’s successes. He has led many award-winning projects and has co-written JDDA’s monograph ‘Intersection of Nature and Art’, published in December of 2022.

Justin received a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Connecticut, earning the Connecticut American Society of Landscape Architecture’s Honor Award for design and technical coursework. A proud father of 3, Justin and his wife are long term residents of Litchfield County in Connecticut where he was elected and served on his town’s conservation and open space commissions.

 
 
 

MATTHEW WILLINGER

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Matthew Willinger holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from New York University in both History of Art and Literature and is proud to have a career that unites his passion for art and design with his love of horticulture. He has earned certifications from the New York Botanical Garden Continuing Education Program in Landscape Design, Commercial Horticulture Plant Identification, and Flower Garden Design. In addition, he has lectured with various garden clubs and greatly enjoys participating in community events, that improve landscape situations.

Matthew has been a volunteer with EarthPledge, a non-profit New York City organization that promotes ‘Green’ Architecture and environmentally correct practices, and also as a gardener for City Hall Park in New York City. Matthew has been a member of the James Doyle Design Associates team since April, 2006.

CHERYL BROWN

SENIOR ASSOCIATE - STUDIO DIRECTOR

Cheryl Brown began pursuing landscape design in Vermont, integrating her passions for gardening and the outdoors with design. Looking to explore the field of landscape design more extensively, she continued her education and received her MLA from Cornell University. While in school, she was employed as an intern with a residential design-build firm in the Aspen, Colorado area. Here she had the opportunity to work with both homeowners and architects to create outdoor living spaces.

After graduating, she gained experience working in a multidisciplinary firm on sustainable design projects, ranging in size from small scale entryway gardens to large scale, mixed use developments. She enjoys integrating sustainable design techniques aesthetically into landscape designs. Cheryl Brown brings over 12 years of residential design experience to her projects at JDDA and is a licensed Landscape Architect in the States of Connecticut and New York and member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

 

YVONNE BRANDT

CREATIVE MANAGER

Yvonne Brandt graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Her background in horticulture and graphic design has enabled her to excel in her role as Creative Manager at JDDA for over a decade. Yvonne's exceptional creative and organizational skills have been instrumental in designing and managing all marketing and graphic design projects at JDDA. She also oversees all project photography and works closely with magazine editors to showcase the firm's award-winning landscape designs.

In 2020, Yvonne designed a new brand identity and website for James Doyle Design Associates. Her latest accomplishment is the art direction and design of the firm's new book, "Intersection of Nature and Art," which is a published monograph highlighting JDDA's distinguished work. In 2024, Yvonne is currently working on her certification in digital marketing from Cornell University, which will help further strengthen her expertise in the field.

 

ANTHONY TAVARES

SENIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Anthony Tavares began his career in landscape design having earned degrees in Landscape Architecture from the University of Connecticut and Graphic Design from Rivier University in New Hampshire. He has been pursuing his interest and passion for landscapes and gardens ever since. He has over 15 years of experience in the landscape industry. Aside from his experiences in landscape design, Anthony has a specific expertise in stone masonry.

Through a process that involves working closely with clients, Anthony creates meaningful and memorable outdoor spaces that exhibit artistic expression and a sophisticated design sense. In addition, he has also been a guest design critic and lecturer for the Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Connecticut. Anthony is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and The Stone Trust, an organization with a mission to preserve and advance the art and craft of dry-stone walling.

 

JUAN CASTELLANOS

SENIOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

Juan Felipe Castellanos is a graduate of Cornell University where he double majored, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Studies, Landscape Architecture, and a concentration in Latin American Studies. While at Cornell he was a Tradition Fellow and was awarded an ASLA Student Merit Award. He furthered his education with a Master of Urban Design from Carnegie Mellon University. His professional work has been broad and included experience at design firms, non-profits, and universities. While their focus differed, together they instilled a more holistic approach to the creative process and project management.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Juan Felipe was raised in South Florida and has worked in a variety of places including Miami, Panamá, Pittsburgh, and the New York Metro Area. He is driven by a desire to create memorable places that arise through an inclusive and collaborative process, are based on sound research, and inspire their users.

 

KEITH BELLIZZI

SENIOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

Keith is a professional Landscape Architect in Connecticut, graduating from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture. For his undergraduate work, Keith earned the Landscape Architecture Excellence Award. He continues to pursue this excellence by driving his work with a passion for design. Keith prides himself on his ability to craft designs that seamlessly link architecture with the landscape while respecting the natural qualities of the land.

Keith’s most recent endeavor includes working for an ecologically focused firm that provided design services respectful of the natural environment. With over ten years of experience, Keith has also worked at award-winning firms designing a variety of projects that include high-end residential properties and commercial development. This combined experience allows Keith a depth of knowledge when approaching each design.

 

GIULIA PUCCINI

SENIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Giulia hails from the picturesque region of Tuscany and spent most of her formative years in the company of her architect father, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for the design process. Her childhood was spent exploring various sites with her father, which further fueled her interest in this field. Giulia commenced her academic journey at the University of Pisa, where she pursued her studies in Landscape Management. However, her passion for design led her to move to London in 2012 to further hone her skills and pursue her dreams.

In 2015, she successfully completed her Diploma in Garden Design at KLC School of Design, situated in London. During that year, she also volunteered at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show, where she had the opportunity to meet the directors of del Buono Gazerwitz. This encounter led to an exciting opportunity as she soon found herself working at dBG for the next few years, where she primarily focused on designing and developing gardens in the UK and Italy.

Giulia had the privilege of working with Arne Maynard Garden Design in 2019. During her tenure, she was involved in numerous international projects and gained extensive experience in managing the design and construction of gardens that varied in size and scope. According to her, gardens serve as an extension of one's home and provide a perfect connection between indoor space and one's soul, thus emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with nature.

 

KASIA KUCZYNSKA

LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Kasia Kuczynska holds a master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wroclaw, Poland. Furthering her studies, she also worked to obtain her Ph.D. in Sustainable Landscape Design from the Wroclaw University of Technology.

Before joining JDDA, Kasia worked as an Assistant Landscape Architect in London, England. After relocating to America in 2016, Kasia joined a landscape design/build company in the Hamptons, where she was responsible for the design and project management of High-End Residential Gardens.

Inspired by English Country Gardens and led by her passion for horticulture, Kasia's sensitive design approach allows her to create unique garden spaces in symbiosis with nature.

 

CHELSEA KASHAN

LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

As an artist, Chelsea received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and sculpture from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. During her time there, she became interested in working with organic materials and land art, while gathering inspiration for paintings from her rock collection; a path that led her to pursue a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Miami, Florida, where she grew up, fostered her love of resilient inland and coastal vegetation, the ocean, and an affinity for the power of natural systems, hurricanes, and the Everglades.

Prior to joining JDDA, Chelsea worked as a designer with a Miami based landscape firm and, most recently, as a project manager for a NYC based firm notable for residential English garden design. Detail oriented site analysis, iterative hand drawing, and artistic representation are at the forefront of informing Chelsea’s design sensibilities. She enjoys accentuating site history and context, landforming and developing plant palettes.

 

SHUFAN FENG

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

Shufan received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from China Agricultural University, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from Arizona State University. Her journey started with a valuable internship at Beihai Park, a former imperial garden located in Beijing. For the past seven years, Shufan has been working as a landscape designer at a Boston-based firm, specializing in public park and commercial development projects.

Shufan's diverse experience includes projects ranging from traditional gardens to contemporary landscaping, spanning the eastern to western contexts. She is dedicated to using her unique background and experience to inspire and incorporate innovative ideas into her future designs. Shufan is detail-oriented, and values fully-thought-out plans to realize imagination into reality.

As a dragon boat paddler, Shufan enjoys the energy of working together towards a common goal. She is a solo adventurer and explores new and exciting baking ideas.

 

IBRAHIM AL KHARUSI

JUNIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

In May 2021, Ibrahim graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts in landscape architecture. He worked for AlGinan Plant Nursery in Oman, a family-owned business, where he worked as a designer and gained knowledge of plant materials. His passion for landscape architecture came to fruition in his time there, inspiring him to further his studies and career.

Ibrahim was born and raised in Oman. His travels have taken him around the world to places including Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom. With a passion for photography, he observed and captured the beauty of inspiring landscapes while visiting these many different countries.

 

FRANCISCO LA ORDEN

JUNIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Fran is born and raised in Logroño, Spain (land of vineyards) and has a varied background in the design world. He graduated with degrees in interior design and product development from the ESDIR (School of Design of La Rioja) Rioja, Spain. There, he had an interior design studio which specialized in private residences, and he was a member of the European Council of Interior Architects.

Upon moving to the US, he discovered a passion for landscape design and pursued studies of gardening at UConn Extension and received the title of Master Gardener. He also has certification from the New York Botanical Garden Continuing Education Program in Landscape Design. Fran has worked as a landscape designer for several companies in Fairfield County and over the last number of years, he worked for an engineering firm in Connecticut as a landscape designer. He brings his wide-ranging artistic background to the firm’s many projects.

 

JACQULYN FORTUNA

JUNIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Jacqulyn Fortuna holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. Jacqulyn has been inspired by her background growing up in the cities of Hong Kong and Sydney. Jacqulyn developed a passion to explore different expressions of harmonious landscape design that bring people together to create lasting memories.

Following her graduation, Jacqulyn practiced as a landscape designer at an award-winning residential design/build firm in Sydney where she spent 3 years discovering the innovative ways of design, implementation and the construction of landscape architecture.

Upon her relocation to the US, Jacqulyn gained additional experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary environment at a residential design/build company in Fairfield County. Jacqulyn aspires to further her career with a practice exploring the integration of nature and art in multi-scale residential projects.

 

CATHERINE PRIOLET

JUNIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Catherine holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree from Fordham University in Bronx, New York. She went on to receive a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the Spitzer School of Architecture at the City College of New York, where she learned about systems thinking and how to view landscapes in a holistic way.

Catherine has worked on projects ranging from a large planning scale to small urban interventions. Her interests in landscape architecture include material reuse, green infrastructure, and regenerative planting design. She draws from site specificity and history to create spaces which speak to the soul, while also providing ecologically viable habitat and responsible management of local resources. She is inspired by the opportunity to apply these concepts to residential landscape projects and create a network of beautiful and sustainable greenspaces in doing so.

 

NATE HOLMES

JUNIOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Nate Holmes holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelors in Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin. With his passion for both plants and design, he endeavors to seamlessly merge the two into each of his projects.

Nate’s background includes an internship at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and work for a residential garden management company in Minneapolis. Here, he honed his plant knowledge while managing and designing client gardens, which led him back to school for his master’s to enhance his design skills. In his travels he can be found exploring natural spaces and gardens for inspiration for his next design.

 

ELIZABETH FOLEY

OFFICE DIRECTOR

Elizabeth is the Office Director at James Doyle Design Associates. She oversees the daily operations of the office, including bookkeeping, HR, and administrative functions, to ensure an organized and efficient office environment. Prior to joining JDDA, Elizabeth worked for 10+ years in Office Management and Executive Assistant roles in the entertainment and finance industries, working closely with high-level executives.

A new resident of Greenwich, Elizabeth is always out and about at the parks and playgrounds with her husband, two little ones, and dog, Daisy Mae.
