Set along a weathered ridge in the Catskills, the landscape takes its cues from the site’s former life as a bluestone quarry, allowing geology, topography, and long views to shape a design rooted in material honesty and spatial clarity. Stone sourced from the property was reintroduced as steps, benches, a sculptural garden, and a boulder-set fire pit, complemented by Corten steel and board-formed concrete to create a refined yet elemental architectural language. Positioned to frame expansive views across an open meadow and toward the distant mountains, trees and structural plantings establish a rhythm of enclosure and release, drawing the horizon into daily experience. Shallow, nutrient-poor soils informed a resilient palette of drought-tolerant native grasses, perennials, and canopy trees, with seeded meadows evolving over time to enrich both visual depth and ecological presence—shaping a series of quiet outdoor rooms defined by light, land, and the enduring character of the Catskills.
