ZEN GARDEN IN GREENWICH

GREENWICH \ CONNECTICUT

Set across a dramatic 23-foot grade change, this modern garden unfolds as a quiet procession, where granite monolithic steps and rust-toned Corten walls guide movement through a landscape of structure and softness. A Zen garden at the entrance introduces a moment of stillness, anchored by a cloud-pruned Pinus sylvestris ‘Bonna’ and underplanted with Sagina subulata on crushed oyster shells and repurposed site boulders, reflecting an ethos of reuse. Nearby, a productive kitchen garden begins at a salvaged stone threshold, featuring a transplanted fig, espaliered peach, heirloom roses, and a cherished peony. Around the house, a Renson pergola and Kebony decking frame open views and modern outdoor living, while terraced levels, softened with Carex and managed by rain gardens, descend toward the road—creating a landscape defined by contrast, clarity, and quiet architectural grace.
